While the New Testament does not set a percentage amount, putting God first in our money is one of the ways to observe spiritual maturity. Many Christians say tithing (10 percent of our income) is an Old Testament law that we are not bound to and I would agree. But I would add 10 percent of our income is a good number to start with for those who love Jesus!
At the end of
this article is a sad commentary to the observable spiritual maturity of most Christians...It says most Christians give less than 4 percent of their income.

The Bible nowhere commands the Christian to tithe a set amount or percentage to the church. Any attempts to read it out of the OT in the NT is an abomination.
Should Christians give? Of course. Paul sets down the example in 2 Cor 8-9, and elsewhere.
Is a Christian that tithes or gives in a better place of blessing than one that doesn't? If the answer is yes, that is legalism, plain and simple.

Would you see giving money (represents labor normally) as a Work that will be rewarded according to 1st Corinthians 3:12-15?
